gaṅgātaraṅgaramaṇīyajaṭākalāpaṃ
gaurīnirantaravibhūṣitavāmabhāgam।
nārāyaṇapriyamanaṅgamadāpahāraṃ

जिनकी जटाएँ गंगाजी की लहरों से सुन्दर प्रतीत होती हैं, जिनका वामभाग सदा पार्वतीजी से सुशोभित रहता है, जो नारायण के प्रिय और कामदेव के मद का नाश करने वाले हैं, उन काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥

वाचामगोचरमनेकगुणस्वरूपं
वागीशविष्णुसुरसेवितपादपीठम्।
वामेन विग्रहवरेण कलत्रवन्तं।
वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम्॥२॥

vācāmagocaramanekaguṇasvarūpaṃ
vāgīśaviṣṇusurasevitapādapīṭham।
vāmena vigrahavareṇa kalatravantaṃ।
vārāṇasīpurapatiṃ bhaja viśvanātham॥2॥

वाणी द्वारा जिनका वर्णन नहीं हो सकता, जिनके अनेक गुण और अनेक स्वरूप हैं, ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और अन्य देवता जिनकी चरणपादुका का सेवन करते हैं, जो अपने सुन्दर वामांग के द्वारा ही सपत्नीक हैं, उन काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥२॥

भूताधिपं भुजगभूषणभूषिताङ्गं
व्याघ्राजिनाम्बरधरं जटिलं त्रिनेत्रम्।
पाशाङ्कशाभयवरप्रदशूलपाणिं।
वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम्॥३॥

bhūtādhipaṃ bhujagabhūṣaṇabhūṣitāṅgaṃ
vyāghrājināmbaradharaṃ jaṭilaṃ trinetram।
pāśāṅkaśābhayavarapradaśūlapāṇiṃ।
vārāṇasīpurapatiṃ bhaja viśvanātham॥3॥

जो भूतों के अधिपति हैं, जिनका शरीर सर्परूपी गहनों से विभूषित है, जो बाघ की खाल का वस्त्र पहनते हैं, जिनके हाथों में पाश, अंकुश, अभय, वर और शूल हैं, उन जटाधारी त्रिनेत्र काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥३॥

शीतांशुशोभितकिरीटविराजमानं
भालेक्षणानलविशोषितपञ्चबाणम्।
नागाधिपारचतभासुरकर्णपूरं।
वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम्॥४॥

śītāṃśuśobhitakirīṭavirājamānaṃ
bhālekṣaṇānalaviśoṣitapañcabāṇam।
nāgādhipāracatabhāsurakarṇapūraṃ।
vārāṇasīpurapatiṃ bhaja viśvanātham॥4॥

जो चन्द्रमा द्वारा प्रकाशित किरीट से शोभित हैं, जिन्होंने अपने भालस्थ नेत्र की अग्नि से कामदेव को दग्ध कर दिया, जिनके कानों में बड़े-बड़े साँपों के कुण्डल चमक रहे हैं, उन काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥४॥

पञ्चाननं दुरितमत्तमतङ्गजानां
नागान्तकं दनुजपुङ्गवपन्नगानाम्।
दावानलं मरणशोकजराटवीनां।
वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम्॥५॥

pañcānanaṃ duritamattamataṅgajānāṃ
nāgāntakaṃ danujapuṅgavapannagānām।
dāvānalaṃ maraṇaśokajarāṭavīnāṃ।
vārāṇasīpurapatiṃ bhaja viśvanātham॥5॥

जो पापरूपी मतवाले हाथियों के मारने वाले सिंह हैं, दैत्यसमूहरूपी साँपों का नाश करने वाले गरुड़ हैं तथा जो मरण, शोक और बुढ़ापारूपी भीषण वन को जलाने वाले दावानल हैं, ऐसे काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥५॥

tejomayaṃ saguṇanirguṇamadvitīya
mānandakandamaparājitamaprameyam।
nāgātmakaṃ sakalaniṣkalamātmarūpaṃ।

जो तेजपूर्ण, सगुण, निर्गुण, अद्वितीय, आनन्दकन्द, अपराजित और अतुलनीय हैं, जो अपने शरीर पर साँपों को धारण करते हैं, जिनका रूप ह्रासवृद्धिरहित है, ऐसे आत्मस्वरूप काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥६॥

रागादिदोषरहितं स्वजनानुरागं
वैराग्यशान्तिनिलयं गिरिजासहायम्।

rāgādidoṣarahitaṃ svajanānurāgaṃ
vairāgyaśāntinilayaṃ girijāsahāyam।
mādhuryadhairyasubhagaṃ garalābhirāmaṃ।

जो रागादि दोषोंसे रहित हैं; अपने भक्तोंपर कृपा रखते हैं, वैराग्य और शान्तिके स्थान हैं, पार्वतीजी सदा जिनके साथ रहती हैं, जो धीरता और मधुर स्वभावसे सुन्दर जान पड़ते हैं तथा जो कण्ठमें गरलके चिह्नसे सुशोभित हैं, उन काशीपति विश्वनाथको भज॥७॥

आशां विहाय परिहृत्य परस्य निन्दा
पापे रतिं च सुनिवार्य मनः समाधौ।
आदाय हृत्कमलमध्यगतं परेशं।

āśāṃ vihāya parihṛtya parasya nindā
pāpe ratiṃ ca sunivārya manaḥ samādhau।
ādāya hṛtkamalamadhyagataṃ pareśaṃ।

सब आशाओं को छोड़कर, दूसरों की निन्दा त्यागकर और पाप-कर्म से अनुराग हटाकर, चित्त को समाधि में लगाकर, हृदयकमल में प्रकाशमान परमेश्वर काशीपति विश्वनाथ को भज॥८॥

व्याख्यातमष्टकमिदं पठते मनुष्यः।
विद्यां श्रियं विपुलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्ति
सम्प्राप्य देहविलये लभते च मोक्षम्॥९॥

vārāṇasīpurapateḥ stavanaṃ śivasya
vyākhyātamaṣṭakamidaṃ paṭhate manuṣyaḥ।
vidyāṃ śriyaṃ vipulasaukhyamanantakīrti
samprāpya dehavilaye labhate ca mokṣam॥9॥

जो मनुष्य काशीपति शिव के इस आठ श्लोकों के स्तवन का पाठ करता है, वह विद्या, धन, प्रचुर सौख्य और अनन्त कीर्ति प्राप्तकर देहावसान होने पर मोक्ष भी प्राप्त कर लेता है॥९॥

शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते॥१०॥

viśvanāthāṣṭakamidaṃ yaḥ paṭhecchivasannidhau।
śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate॥10॥

जो शिव के समीप इस विश्वनाथाष्टक का पाठ करता है, वह शिवलोक प्राप्त करता और शिव के साथ आनन्दित होता है॥ १० ॥
